Big Changes At The Bureau

Big changes are coming to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  News broke late last week that James Baker, the FBI's general counsel and a Comey appointee, was being reassigned.

It was also reported that Baker had communicated with left-wing Mother Jones reporter David Corn in the days before the 2016 election.  It was Corn who first revealed the existence of the Trump/Russia dossier.

In addition, news broke over the weekend that Deputy Director Andrew McCabe will be retiring early next year.  No doubt you recall that McCabe has been at the center of several controversies.  So much so in fact that Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley (R-IA) has repeatedly called for McCabe's resignation.

These high-profile changes led one liberal reporter to lament that the conservative criticism of the FBI was taking root, and to ask whether the Bureau "will snap under Trump's pressure?"  Meanwhile, many critics of the Trump/Pence Administration, including some "#NeverTrumpers" in the GOP, say it is outrageous to criticize the FBI.  That is absurd.

Most conservative leaders, myself included, have constantly gone out of their way to praise the brave young men and women who put their lives on the line to safeguard our country.  They did it again last week by thwarting a wannabe jihadi who plotted a Christmas day terror attack in San Francisco.

(By the way, President Trump's support for the men and women of law enforcement was on full display this Christmas.)

The betrayal here is not by the president, the vice president or even the FBI's critics.  The betrayal comes from the ideological extremists who rose through the ranks during the Obama years and who see themselves as the "keepers of the flame," above the electorate they sometimes seem to despise.

I'm thinking of Peter Stzork's text when he claimed he could "smell" the Trump support in a southern Virginia Walmart.  These are the bureaucrats who applauded in approval when Hillary Clinton called fellow citizens who wanted to put America first "deplorable and irredeemable."

There is more evidence that these "Deep State" activists colluded with one another and the left to prevent Trump's election and then to bring him down than there is that Trump colluded with Russia.

If you are pro-FBI, as I am, the most important thing that can be done to help the agents in the field is to rid them of the politically correct cancer that has metastasized throughout the Bureau's Washington, D.C., headquarters.

The idea that Trump should be passive while Robert Mueller, with an unlimited budget and a team of liberal loyalists, runs roughshod over the personal and professional lives of every Trump associate, is ludicrous.  Bill Clinton wasn't very nice to Ken Starr.

What is endangering the Republic is not Donald Trump's tweets, but the machinations of "Deep State" conspirators inside the government who are determined to overturn the will of the people.  I am pleased to see that more elected officials are calling out the unelected bureaucrats.

ICYMI:  Do We Know It’s Christmas?

You may not know it from the ever-present Christmas trees, lights, and wreaths, but American attitudes toward Christmas are shifting. A recent Pew study found that while 90 percent of Americans still celebrate Christmas in some form, 56 percent believe that the holiday’s religious elements are stressed less than they used to be.  Read more in my latest opinion piece at the Washington Examiner.

We Need You!

As I mentioned in my message this morning, I deeply appreciate the support and encouragement we have received from so many friends this month.  But as we prepare to close the books on 2017, we are scrambling to close a big hole in our budget.

If you have not yet supported our work, now is the time to give.  We have a $100,000 matching gift opportunity!  That means your $5 gift will become $10.  $50 will become $100.  $500 will become $1,000.

We have just six days left to meet our goal, and I don't want to leave any of these resources on the table.

We need your support to keep going.

Please help me make the most of this generous matching opportunity!
