America At Risk
As many of you know, I co-authored a book with Dr. James Dobson 30 years ago called "Children At Risk." Among other things, we warned about the dangers of the radical left seizing control of our schools. Years later, the negative results are coming into sharp focus, and now the country is at risk.
According to the latest survey from Harvard's Institute of Politics, only 31% of young Americans (ages 18 to 29) believe in American exceptionalism. Fifty percent think other nations in the world are just as good or even better than America.
This is worse news than the horror of what happened in Afghanistan. It's worse than the supply chain crisis and even the COVID pandemic. All those things can, and will be, overcome. But if less than one-third of American youth believe in the central idea of our founding, then we've got huge, potentially catastrophic, problems.
In one sense, this depressing study is not a surprise. Our youth increasingly do not believe in God. And for many years now, they've been indoctrinated to believe that America is a terrible nation, founded on slavery and genocide. This is the legacy of what Dr. Dobson and I warned about 30 years ago.
The point of propaganda in war is to demoralize your enemy. Will a generation that doubts the goodness of its own country fight to defend it? What our children are being taught in schools today is the most effective enemy propaganda imaginable, and it's clearly working.
We must reclaim our history to secure our future!
America Matters
There's a reason immigrants from communist countries are trying so hard to warn us today. (Here and here.) America is a special place.
American exceptionalism is defined in the second paragraph of the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
Our Founders boldly stated that liberty comes from God, not government. No other nation is built on this idea.
American exceptionalism is sometimes misunderstood as America being a place where you can go from rags to riches. While America certainly has been a country of tremendous economic opportunity, we've also experienced difficult times like the Great Depression and the Great Recession. But if we enter another period of protracted economic pain, American exceptionalism will not disappear.
The "shining city upon a hill" doesn't refer to a bustling port. It's a biblical reference to Jerusalem and to the heavenly Jerusalem to come. The Founders embraced the reference because they believed that America was built on the idea that no government could take away what God gave us as a birthright.
They also believed that only a moral people could maintain their liberty. If the people don't believe in God and aren't moral, that eventually leads to a police state. We're seeing that play out in front of our eyes today. The mobs raiding stores and gunning down innocent people in the streets don't fear punishment in this life or the next. (See below.)
If conservatives regain political power in the years ahead, it won't matter how much we lower tax rates if we lose the larger argument about America, including the origin and purpose of our liberty.
The future of our children and grandchildren will be determined by the outcome of this great identity crisis. If we can turn this around by restoring our faith in our founding principles, then America can truly be great again.

More Restrictions
President Biden announced additional restrictions on international travel today. Beginning next week, everyone – including U.S. citizens – coming into the country will have to provide proof of a negative COVID test within 24 hours of travel.
Just to be clear, Biden is treating American citizens like health threats to the country, while allowing 200,000 illegal aliens to cross our southern border every month! Virtually all of those people are coming from countries that do not have the vaccination rates we do.
But Biden is putting them on buses and airplanes, potentially seeding the country with COVID-infected individuals! What's the "science" behind that?
How is it acceptable for illegal immigrants pushing their way into our country to be treated better than American citizens returning home?
And if you needed more proof that Anthony Fauci is a total hack, just watch his response when he was asked to justify this discrimination against American citizens. He completely brushed it off!
The War On Cops
As I have noted, we're living in a period of growing lawlessness. Earlier this week, the Fraternal Order of Police blasted the media for failing to report the facts about this surging crime wave.
Last night, two police officers were shot in a suburb of Salt Lake City, Utah. One is in critical condition, fighting for his life. Sadly, it's becoming an all too frequent occurrence. In fact, 2021 has been the deadliest year on record for law enforcement officers, and there's still one month to go.
Ambushes against police officers are up 126% compared to last year. More than 300 officers have been shot, and, so far this year, 58 have been killed in the line of duty.
It's shocking that whenever a law enforcement officer is killed, there's virtual silence from leading progressive voices. That indicates a much deeper sickness among left-wing elitists.
They wait like vultures for any incident where an officer has to use deadly force so they can turn that officer into a monster. But they don't waste a breath mourning the brave men and women in blue who keep us safe.
It's no wonder that police departments all over the country are having so much difficulty recruiting new officers. Based on the Harvard poll above, the military will have a lot of trouble recruiting. And many doctors and nurses are being driven out of the medical profession by absurd mandates.
At every level, the left is at war against the very people who serve and protect us – our police officers, our military and our first responders.
The Rule Of Precedent
Many absurd arguments were made at the Supreme Court yesterday to justify the continuation of Roe v. Wade and abortion on demand. But none more so than the rantings of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, who compared unborn babies to brain dead individuals.
The court's liberal justices anchored their defense of Roe on "stare decisis" or the rule of precedent. But Justice Brett Kavanaugh noted that the Supreme Court has gotten it wrong many times before and reversed a host of major decisions.
I would also note the absurdity of the left clamoring about precedent or tradition given what the left did to the institution of marriage.
After more than 30 states passed constitutional amendments protecting the definition of marriage as the union of one man and one woman, five left-wing lawyers on the Supreme Court ignored the will of the people and all legal precedent throughout the history of this country.
By a vote of 5-to-4, they completely redefined the institution of marriage. They canceled the votes of millions of Americans. They imposed radical social change on every state. But now the liberal minority on the court is urging "caution." They have no credibility.
Rare & Welcomed Courage
It's been demoralizing and infuriating to see professional U.S. sports teams and big-name athletes kowtow to communist China. They abandon American values because they are dreaming of big bucks in a country enslaved by the Communist Party. But now one U.S. sports entity is confronting evil, and it is refreshing.
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) and its director, Steve Simon, just announced that they are suspending all WTA tournaments in communist China and Hong Kong. The issue is the fate of Peng Shuai, a Chinese tennis star.
Peng publicly accused a high-ranking communist leader of sexual assault and was promptly "disappeared." She has since reemerged, but her communications appear to be made under duress or in fear. The WTA is insisting that she be allowed to speak freely.
This act of courage by the WTA should shame the NBA and "tough" athletes like LeBron James. The International Olympic Committee has also prostituted itself to the communist Chinese. The ladies of the WTA are putting a lot of men to shame!
