Biden’s Voter Payoff Scheme
President Joe Biden announced today that the federal government is canceling up to $20,000 in student loan debt for families making up to $250,000 a year, costing taxpayers another $300 billion.
Biden’s authority for this move is a mystery. Last summer, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said very clearly that Biden cannot do this. She told reporters:
“People think that the president of the United States has the power for debt forgiveness; he does not. He can postpone [payments] . . . but he does not have that power [debt forgiveness]. That has to be an act of Congress.”
Liberal economist Larry Summers, who correctly warned us about Biden’s inflationary socialist spending, warned again that Biden’s latest scheme is throwing more inflationary fuel on the fire. He wrote:
“Student loan debt relief is spending that raises demand and increases inflation. It consumes resources that could be better used helping those who did not, for whatever reason, have the chance to attend college. It will also tend to be inflationary by raising tuitions.”
This is just more evidence that progressives don’t understand basic economics, and they really don’t get it.
But what Biden is doing has nothing to do with economics and everything to do with politics. This is obviously an attempt to buy votes and payoff his base voters (young, white, college educated liberals) in what is looking more and more like a cliffhanger of an election this November.
What’s $300 billion of someone else’s money if it helps you keep power?
That said, the conservatives cannot use purely fiscal arguments to criticize this liberal payoff scheme. They must address the core unfairness of this and how the elites are once again getting more benefits at the expense of working and middle-class Americans.
First, everyone who struggled and sacrificed to pay off their own debts now feels like a sucker.
Second, as Larry Summers noted, many working-class Americans were unable to go to college. Many Americans who work in the trades, like construction or plumbing, may have taken out loans to buy trucks or tools needed for their specific line of work. Who’s paying off their loans?
Why is the kid from an upper-middle class family making a six-figure income more deserving of this debt relief, but working-class families who just couldn’t afford college get nothing?
Just like the left’s subsidies for $70,000 electric cars in the absurdly named “Inflation Reduction Act,” this student loan debt relief is another transfer of wealth from working-class Americans to wealthy elites.
Ukraine & Mar-a-Lago
Yesterday, we told you that the Biden White House was likely responsible for triggering the FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, even though they denied knowing anything about it. Just another lie.
But here’s the main point: Biden desperately wanted to get into President Trump’s home. So, he set in motion a series of events that resulted in his attorney general issuing an unconstitutional warrant so Wray’s FBI could execute an illegal search in order to find anything they could to prevent Donald Trump from running again, the man Biden insists he wants to run against in 2024.
Some would say, “But, Gary, Biden beat Trump the last time. He could do it again.” Well, if there’s one person who knows that Biden cheated, it’s Joe Biden. And he knows it will be harder to cheat next time.
And consider this: In the middle of a phone call between President Trump and the president of Ukraine, Trump asked the Ukrainian leader to help us get to the bottom of the corruption involving Hunter Biden in Ukraine.
The Democrats and their media allies impeached Trump because he was supposedly using the power of the presidency to launch an investigation of the son of his likely opponent.
Well, Biden just used the entire power of his administration -- the Justice Department, the FBI, the National Archives -- to launch an investigation to destroy his future opponent.
By the left’s own standard, Biden just committed an impeachable offense!
Do Blue Lives Matter?
An Oklahoma sheriff’s deputy was shot and killed Monday attempting to serve an eviction notice. An off-duty officer in the Bronx was viciously beaten while jogging yesterday. Two Miami, Florida, police officers were stabbed this morning when they confronted a man threatening people with a knife.
These attacks and others continue a disturbing trend of violence against the men and women who serve on the “thin Blue line.” The bodies of law enforcement officers have been stacking up since the summer of 2020, when the left launched a full-throated assault on American law enforcement.
And it wasn’t just verbal attacks. Progressive mayors joined progressive city councils to defund the police and impose other insane policies that handcuffed cops and empowered criminals.
But not one major “mainstream” media outlet in America points to the vicious anti-police rhetoric in recent years and blames the left for the increasing violence against police officers.
Meanwhile, they’re all waiting, and I would even say “hoping,” that the next story they get to write is that something bad happened to an FBI agent. Then there will be a full-throated attack on Donald Trump and the GOP for “creating this atmosphere of violence.”
This is what the left does – it invents false narratives and fake news.
So, I ask my conservative friends, where are your voices? Far too many Republicans are wringing their hands over criticism of FBI corruption while cops are being attacked every day.
I’m still waiting for Joe Biden to lower the flag over the death of a police officer, any police officer, dozens of whom have been killed in the line of duty this year.
Bowser vs. Biden
Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser once again asked the Biden Administration to provide National Guard troops to help her city, and she was turned down again.
Bowser resisted calling up the National Guard to preserve order when the White House was under siege during the 2020 riots. Bowser resisted deploying the National Guard to preserve order on January 6th, too. But that’s not what she wants the Guard for now.
No, she wants to do to the National Guard what Joe Biden has done to the Border Patrol. She wants to turn them into social workers, helping to feed and care for illegal aliens, which is not what the National Guard is for.
She’s doing this at a time when the military is unable to meet its recruiting goals. In the event of a major crisis, the National Guard would be called up to deal with that emergency, assuming they aren’t too busy changing diapers and serving lunch to illegal aliens.
Meanwhile, if Bowser and Biden are looking for a real crisis where the National Guard could be helpful, they might consider deploying troops to the southern border to stop what most Americans say is an unprecedented “invasion” of millions of illegal aliens from all over the world.
The head of the Drug Enforcement Administration is warning that Mexican cartels are “killing Americans with fentanyl at catastrophic and record rates like we have never seen before.”
Biden’s reckless open borders policy is killing people! That is reason enough to impeach him.
Election Results
Here are some highlights from last night’s election results.
- Donald Trump’s endorsed candidates won “bigly” in last night’s primary elections. Trump’s endorsement record now stands at 206-19.
- In Florida, Gov. Ron DeSantis will face Democrat Congressman Charlie Crist in the general election. Crist, a former GOP governor, easily defeated Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried in the Democrat primary.
- In New York, long-time Democrat incumbents Jerry Nadler and Carolyn Maloney faced off in a primary forced by redistricting. Nadler, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, defeated Maloney, chairman of the House Oversight Committee.
- Incumbent Democrat Mondaire Jones lost his primary for New York’s 10th Congressional District.
- In a special general election for the open New York 19th Congressional District, which the media have attempted to spin as a “November bellwether race,” Democrat Pat Ryan narrowly won last night, despite Democrats winning the district two years ago by 12 points.
- In Oklahoma, Rep. Mark Wayne Mullin easily prevailed in the GOP run-off election to serve the remainder of Sen. Jim Inhofe’s term.
