How Biden Stopped A Black Woman
As you know, Joe Biden has promised to appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court. The American people have serious reservations about Biden's "identity politics."
A new poll from ABC News found that 76% of Americans believe Biden should consider "all possible nominees." Just 23% support Biden's decision to consider only black women.
This poll reminded me about another black woman nominated to serve on the federal bench, a woman who was terribly mistreated by the American left generally and by Joe Biden specifically.
In 2003, President George W. Bush nominated Janice Rogers Brown to serve on the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, which is widely considered the nation's second most important court and a training ground for future Supreme Court justices.
At the time, Brown was a justice on the California Supreme Court. She was known for her conservative judicial opinions against affirmation action and in favor of parental consent for abortion.
But rather than embrace Brown's appointment to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Democrats were united in opposition. Democrats, including then-Senators Joe Biden and Barack Obama, repeatedly filibustered Brown's confirmation.
Yes – filibustered! The procedure that Biden today calls a relic of the Jim Crow era was used by Biden to destroy a black female nominee.
President Bush renominated Brown, and she was eventually confirmed in 2005 after a bipartisan agreement. But Democrats did their best to block her confirmation because the left feared she could have been the first black woman appointed to the Supreme Court, and they did everything they could to destroy her. Biden voted against her three times.
Had she been confirmed in 2003, the odds are overwhelming that we would have had a black woman on the Supreme Court 17 years ago when Justice Sandra Day O'Connor retired.
But the left isn't really concerned about black women. They want leftists on the Supreme Court who will continue to remake America.
The most important "qualification" Biden has for his Supreme Court nominee is not merit, skin color or gender. The most important qualification is that she is committed to the left's agenda, and will ignore the Constitution in order to impose the left's values on America.
More Threats
Late last week, communist China's ambassador to the United States said that if we continue to stand with Taiwan, then communist China and the United States are headed to war. Ambassadors are supposed to be diplomatic, but this was a very undiplomatic public threat of war.
As I read his remarks, I was reminded about what happened when President Trump's tough statements on communist China caused concern among China's leadership.
General Mark "Thoroughly Modern" Milley called his colleagues in the Chinese communist military – you know, the people who intend to replace us as the world's superpower – to reassure them that they had nothing to worry about. Milley told his communist colleagues that if we were going to war, he would give Beijing a heads-up.
So, I'm wondering if anyone in Beijing gave Milley a courtesy call in recent days. Did they tell him that the Chinese ambassador's remarks were not to be taken seriously, that they were only meant for domestic consumption back in China? I strongly suspect that no such call was made.
But if Milley's counterpart in Beijing did call him, it was probably to tell Gen. Milley that we had better pay attention to what the ambassador said. The Chinese communists are serious about dominating the world.
Too many American elites seem to value their relationships with the communist Chinese more than they value our country and our freedom.
General Milley is not the only one who values his ties to Chinese elites. We now know that Doctors Anthony Fauci and Francis Collins wanted to suppress the Wuhan lab leak theory because it would damage their relationships with Chinese communist scientists.
As we have said before, COVID not only brought death to the United States, it also affected the ability of our elites to think straight, and it infected progressive politicians and bureaucrats with outrageous totalitarian impulses.
Trump Exposes Left-wing Hypocrisy
Donald Trump delivered a strong speech this weekend in Texas before a huge crowd. Referring to COVID, Trump said that leftist elites essentially locked us in our homes. We couldn't go to work. We couldn't go to sporting events. We couldn't go to church.
But while they require American citizens to produce vaccine passports or stay home, they allowed millions of unvaccinated illegal aliens to cross our borders and they released prisoners from jail.
Trump added, "They torture your children with masks in school, while they host parties packed with unmasked donors in New York, San Francisco and Washington, D.C."
No wonder there is a conservative, populist tidal wave building across America.
The Left Loves Dark Money
Over the weekend, the New York Times published a very disturbing article about the role left-wing "dark money" played in the 2020 campaign. The headline says it all: "Democrats Decried Dark Money. Then They Won With It In 2020."
If you're not familiar with the term, so-called "dark money" is unregulated and undisclosed money spent by nonprofit organizations, much of it coming from corporations and billionaires, in ways that can influence elections. In 2020, the left vastly outspent the right in dark money.
For example, the Times notes that one murky and secretive organization, the Sixteen Thirty Fund, received individual donations as large as $50 million, and spent more than $400 million in 2020 – more than the Democrat National Committee spent the same year! And a significant amount of left-wing dark money went to former Never Trumpers who incessantly attacked conservatives.
Dark money has become the major factor in American politics, and it's not going away anytime soon. In fact, George Soros just pledged to spend 50% more this year than he spent in 2020.
While we're on the subject of money, the Black Lives Matter organization reportedly raised $90 million in 2020. Much of it came from American corporations that couldn't wait to be seen as allies of the group, and they didn't even wait to do some basic due diligence. If they had, they probably wouldn't have given millions to a radical Marxist organization.
Today, the BLM group has about $60 million in unspent funds, but no one seems to be in charge of the organization. We do know that the organization spent $8 million last year to buy a 10,000 square-foot mansion in Toronto that once served as the headquarters of the Communist Party of Canada.
Perhaps that's a smart investment. The real estate market has been very hot lately. Maybe they can renovate the property and flip it for a nice profit. Or maybe they are trying to renovate the Communist Party of Canada.
