Defending Life

Hundreds of thousands of Americans came to Washington, D.C., today for the annual March for Life. The march marks a tragic anniversary in America -- the Supreme Court's Roe v. Wade decision legalizing most abortions nationally. Since that ruling 42 years ago, more than 57 million innocent lives have been sacrificed in the name choice.

Our nation was founded on the idea that each one of us was created by God with the "unalienable" right to life. Fifty-seven million deaths is a betrayal of our founding principles.

Yet in spite of this reality, the March for Life is always one of the most inspiring events of the year. I was especially honored to address marchers from my home state of Kentucky this morning. It is so encouraging to see so many young men and women marching for this great cause.

A lot of people come to Washington every day, often to lobby for some kind of self-interest. What is striking about the March for Life is that the people coming to Washington today are here to lobby on behalf of others who can't even thank them. And in return for their selfless efforts, they will be called "fascists" and "extremists" by those on the left. They will be accused of turning the clock back on women's rights.

But it is the left that wants to turn back the clock. Modern technology allows us to see into the womb, making it virtually impossible to deny the humanity of the unborn child. The science of conception is settled! Those who deny the reality of life are the true deniers of science.

Unfortunately, some weak-kneed politicians in the House, fearing liberal spin, scuttled a vote on legislation banning late-term abortions.

This is not a tough call. Numerous polls have found overwhelming public support for banning late-term abortions. Representatives Renee Ellmers (202-225-4531) and Jackie Walorski (202-225-3915) have a lot of explaining to do.

Regardless of today's setback, I am confident that the day is coming when all of our children will be welcomed into society and protected by the law. Some argue that we shouldn't try to legislate morality. The same was said about slavery. They claim abortion is settled law, and after 42 years it might seem so.

But Roe v. Wade is based on the same misguided philosophy as Dred Scott -- that some humans are not "people" with rights we are bound to respect. There is considerable irony that the first president of color, a supposed constitutional scholar no less, refuses to see this.

With your continued support, my friends, I promise to keep fighting for life so long as God gives me breath!

Will The Left Apologize?

The New York Times reports that the Justice Department is now drafting a legal memo "recommending no civil rights charges" against former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. According to the Times,"The investigation by the FBI . . . found no evidence to support civil rights charges against the officer."

So after months of investigations, with scores of FBI agents conducting hundreds of interviews, the Justice Department has concluded that the Ferguson grand jury got it right after all.

An entire left-wing movement was birthed by a lie. Ferguson was set ablaze and the nation traumatized over what the Justice Department concedes was a gross distortion. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Eric Holder and others were quick to rush to judgment, blaming America.

Speaking before the United Nations in September, Barack Obama suggested that America had "failed to live up to our ideals." Conflating the fight against ISIS with Ferguson, Obama said, "In a summer marked by instability in the Middle East and Eastern Europe, I know the world also took notice of the small American city of Ferguson, Missouri."

Where does Darren Wilson go to get his reputation and his life back? Where do Ferguson store owners go to get their property back, their sense of peace and justice back?

President Obama and Attorney General Holder, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, the left-wing media and every one of the looters and rioters should apologize to the American people. But I won't hold my breath.

The Ayatollah's Appeal

The negotiations between Iran and the United States may not be making much progress on stopping the mullahs from getting nuclear weapons. But they seem to be making progress in other areas. Iran's Ayatollah Khamenei and President Obama are both promoting Islam.

Like Obama, it seems the ayatollah is worried about "negative stereotypes of Islam" in the aftermath of the Charlie Hebdo attacks. So Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has published an online message to the youth of Europe and North America, appealing to them to ignore the news and study Islam on their own.

Wouldn't it be great if we had a president who would actually respond to the ayatollah with a strong defense of Judeo-Christian values? It really wouldn't be that hard to make the case for Western Civilization. Just compare the rights of women in Europe and North America to those under Sharia law or our First Amendment freedoms to fatwas against authors and cartoonists.

Here's an idea: If the ayatollah is so concerned about terrorism creating negative perceptions of Islam, he could write a letter to the Muslim youth in Gaza and the West Bank. He could tell them that Islam really is a religion of peace and that they should stop trying to murder innocent Israelis. Even better, he could end Iran's long history of jihad against Western targets.

Heroic?

Yesterday a 23-year-old Palestinian, another citizen of a future Palestinian state, went on a rampage, slashing and stabbing passengers on a bus in Tel Aviv. Twelve people were wounded, several are in critical condition.

A Hamas leader praised the attack as "a heroic and brave operation." Why is our State Department pressuring Israel to negotiate with these butchers?

Israel has made tremendous concessions for peace. It gave up Gaza ten years ago hoping for peace. Instead, Hamas turned Gaza into a launching pad for more rocket attacks. Rather than building schools and hospitals for the Palestinian people, Hamas literally undermined Israel's security by building dozens of terror tunnels.

Who exactly is Israel's peace partner? Polls show that if elections were held today for control of a new Palestinian state, Hamas would win. Why would anyone in their right mind support the creation of another terrorist state run by fanatical Islamists in the Middle East? The "two-state solution" is a fantasy.
