The People’s President
President Donald Trump delivered a tremendous address before a joint session of Congress last night. It was an incredible speech! But there was something almost unbelievable about the speech that I hope Americans saw clearly.
The left frequently excoriates Donald Trump for having “no empathy.” It’s the exact opposite. I have seen personally how empathetic he is. And he doesn’t forget people.
Yesterday, before his speech, he called the Gold Star parents of the Abbey Gate bombing. That horrible attack occurred three and a half years ago. He wasn’t president then. But he called them after the attack, and he hasn’t forgotten them since.
President Trump wanted them to know that the terrorist responsible for their suffering is now in U.S. custody.
The CIA provided the intelligence to the Pakistani government. They captured this terrorist and turned him over to us. That’s what the CIA is supposed to be doing. Not signing letters about laptops to manipulate our elections or spying on members of Congress.
President Trump said this jihadist will face swift justice. I pray that is true. He should be indicted, put on trial, and executed as swiftly as possible.
Donald Trump remembered the 95 year-old woman who approached him at the Butler, Pennsylvania, rally and begged him to bring her son home from Russia where he was unjustly imprisoned. He promised he would, and he meant it when he said it. Mark Fogel was freed and returned to the United States just three weeks after Trump took office.
He never forgot that promise -- even after he was nearly assassinated at that very rally!
Sadly, Corey Comperatore didn’t survive that assassination attempt. He died shielding his family from the hail of bullets. Donald Trump called Helen Comperatore, Corey’s widow, “almost every day for two weeks.” He didn’t forget them.
Trump honored Corey and his family at last year’s Republican National Convention, and he honored them again during last night’s address to the nation.
Reflecting on the attempt on his life at the Butler rally, Trump said, “I believe that my life was saved that day in Butler for a very good reason. I was saved by God to Make America Great Again, I believe that.”
Millions of us do, too, Mr. President!
American Heroes
Donald Trump has always been committed to elevating American heroes. When the 1995 Veterans Day Parade in New York City almost didn’t happen due to lack of funds, Donald Trump stepped up and saved the parade.
He doesn’t want America’s heroes to be forgotten, and he honored them again last night.
He introduced Jeff Dennard, a steel worker from Alabama. Jeff serves as the captain of a volunteer fire department and has opened his home to more than 40 foster children.
He recognized Border Patrol Agent Roberto Ortiz, “a warrior on the front lines” of our immigration battle. Ortiz saved his partner during a shootout with drug cartel gunmen on our border.
President Trump honored the service and sacrifice of New York Police Officer Jonathan Diller, who was murdered by a thug with a long criminal record. Donald Trump went to Diller’s funeral last year. Last night, Trump promised Diller’s widow, Stephanie, that her young son, Ryan, would know his father was one of “New York’s finest.”
The president paid tribute to the courage and service of our men and women in uniform several times, including by introducing Jason Hartley. Three generations of Hartley men have served in the U.S. military, and President Trump told Jason last night that his application to West Point has been accepted.
President Trump also introduced D.J. Daniel, a 13 year-old boy who has survived a horrific battle with brain cancer. He wants to become a police officer. Last night, President Trump surprised D.J. when he instructed Secret Service Director Sean Curran to make him an honorary United States Secret Service agent.
Hard-working Americans. Law enforcement officers and their families. Our patriots in uniform. Those are the heroes who made America a great country, and they are the men and women Donald Trump honors and respects.
A Common Sense Revolution
A consistent theme throughout President Trump’s address was returning to common sense – whether it’s borders, budgets, or even bathrooms.
On the border, Trump exposed Democrats as the party of open borders. He reminded the country that in the short time he has been in office, illegal border crossings have fallen to their lowest level ever. We didn’t need a new law from Congress to secure the border, as Joe Biden claimed. We only needed a new president.
Border security is just common sense. Trump said, “If we truly care about protecting America’s children, no step is more crucial than securing America’s borders.”
Trump noted that the first bill he signed into law was the Laken Riley Act. It was named after a young Christian nursing student in Georgia who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien with a prior record.
This law requires that criminal illegal aliens be detained for deportation. President Trump recognized Laken Riley’s mother, who was in the House gallery last night.
President Trump announced that he was naming a Texas wildlife refuge after Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12 year-old girl who was murdered by two illegal aliens.
If Joe Biden had done his job and enforced our immigration laws, Laken and Jocelyn would be alive today!
On the budget, President Trump listed more than a dozen examples of outrageous and obscene spending identified by Elon Musk and his DOGE team. Billions of our tax dollars are being wasted on LGBTQ propaganda, transgender mice, Arab Sesame Street programs, climate change, and DEI programs in other nations.
Meanwhile, we’re $36 trillion in debt and borrowing money from enemies like communist China.
But President Trump was truly at his best when he spoke frankly about the pain and suffering caused by transgender insanity. He introduced Payton McNabb, who suffered brain damage when a man spiked a volleyball into her head.
He recognized January Littlejohn, whose daughter was being “socially transitioned” at school without her knowledge.
President Trump called on Congress to permanently ban “sex changes on children” to end the big lie that “any child is trapped in the wrong body.” Speaking directly to America’s children, the president said, “Our message to every child in America is that you are perfect exactly the way God made you.”
Recognizing and respecting the biological reality and biblical truth that we are made by God as male and female is just common sense. And President Trump recognizes that this issue represents the fundamental divide in America today.
On one side are those who believe God created each of us with dignity and worth, and that He also created America to be an exceptional nation. On the other side are those who mock Christians, denigrate America, and want to indoctrinate children in bizarre ideologies that convince them to mutilate their bodies.
Last night, President Trump firmly stood for truth, for parents, and for our children.
Disgusting Displays Of Disrespect
In stark contrast to the president’s optimistic and uplifting message was the shocking and appalling behavior of leftist politicians. Throughout Trump’s entire address, progressives put on one disgusting display of disrespect after another.
As Donald Trump delivered these powerful emotional stories, the House chamber erupted into applause and cheers of “USA! USA! USA!” But only one half of the chamber was applauding and cheering. Democrats sat on their hands the entire address.
At one point in his remarks, Trump called the leftists out, saying, “I realize there is absolutely nothing I can say to make them happy or to make them stand or smile or applaud.”
They refused to recognize family members who lost loved ones because of their open border policies.
They refused to applaud record numbers of Americans enlisting in the Army.
They refused to stand and applaud the capture of the Abbey Gate terrorist.
They even refused to stand and applaud a young boy who overcame brain cancer.
Liberals repeatedly tried to shout down the president during his speech.
Some female progressives wore pink, allegedly protesting Trump’s position on “women’s rights.” But some of these same women just the day before voted against protecting women from sick men cheating in women’s sports.
Others staged mini-walkouts at various points throughout Trump’s remarks.
Rep. Al Green (D-TX) literally had to be thrown out of the chamber by the sergeant at arms for disrupting the proceedings.
Rave Reviews
Despite the left’s disrespectful behavior, President Trump’s address earned rave reviews from the American people. Polls by liberal outlets like CBS (76%) and CNN (69%) found overwhelming support for what the president said.
Fox News commentator Brit Hume, who is no fan of Donald Trump, said, “If you ever doubted that Donald Trump is the political colossus of this time and our nation, this night and this speech should put that to rest.”
The Response
Michigan Senator Elissa Slotkin had the unenviable task of delivering the Democrat response to the president’s address. The political landscape is littered with politicians who crashed and burned during this futile exercise. No one can compete against the president being cheered on in the House chamber.
Nevertheless, Slotkin did her best. She slammed Trump for the bad economy – the bad economy he inherited from Joe Biden.
She mocked his success on border security, claiming it was “dealing with the symptom and not the disease.”
Then Slotkin had the audacity to praise Ronald Reagan for his leadership in the Cold War. Talk about revisionist history. Democrats bitterly fought Reagan every step of the way during the Cold War!
But she really lost all credibility when she said, “Donald Trump’s actions suggest that in his heart, he doesn’t believe we’re an exceptional nation.”
WHAT?!
Donald Trump wants to make America great. That was the whole point of his speech and his time in office.
It’s Democrats who don’t believe we are an exceptional nation! They’re the ones condemning our Founding Fathers, pushing critical race theory, and claiming America is “systemically racist.”
