American Greatness
Yesterday was a day of great success for America. Of course, you’d never know it from the left-wing fanatics, humorless comedians and the American media. Here are two things to celebrate.
Artemis II
I was a wee boy when the Russians shocked the world by launching Sputnik. I remember seeing how worried all the adults I knew were. There were fears that we could be attacked from space. Americans in 1957 were ahead of the curve in thinking like that.
But this shock led the United States to launch our space program. Over the years, there were multiple disasters and setbacks. Lives were lost. When I was under secretary of education, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded, killing everyone onboard, including New Hampshire schoolteacher Christa McAuliffe.
Inexplicably, we did not attempt to return to the moon for 53 years—until now. This Artemis crew will fly around the moon and go deeper into space than any human ever has.
Today, we are in a space race with communist China to see who can land on the moon next. But the fear we had in 1957 is a very real reality. The moon and space are the high ground in a world with very bad actors who threaten our future and the future of our children and grandchildren.
Thank God President Trump had the vision in his first term to restore our space program, and it is coming to fruition now.
Objectives Met
In his address to the nation last night, President Trump described the expertise and greatness of the American military. He outlined what has been done to our enemy, the Islamic Republic of Iran.
And, yes, they are our enemy. The radical Iranian regime has been at war with America since 1979 and has killed and maimed thousands of Americans since then.
Today, the Iranian navy is mostly destroyed. More than 100 ships have been destroyed. Iran’s air force and air defenses have been wiped out. American B-52 heavy bombers now operate freely over Iranian airspace. Their missile production capability has been crushed. Their internal security forces have been decimated. These are all tremendous victories!
If we stopped our military campaign today, we would have set back their efforts to develop nuclear weapons for years. President Trump intends to keep striking targets for two more weeks, and each day will set them back even further.
The serious weakening of this evil regime that slaughters its own citizens, even in hospital beds, and recruits children to fight its wars is something most Americans celebrate.
But Not Everyone
Incredibly, the commentators on CNBC this morning just could not celebrate America’s success. Sometimes, I wonder if they even think of themselves as Americans. They said the president’s speech was horrible and did not accomplish anything he needed to do.
What was their evidence for this? The stock market was down 600 points this morning. Well, you don’t run a country by looking at whether the stock market is up or down. As I write this, the market has bounced back to even. Who knows—it could sell off agin.
In fact, the market rallied for the past two days on the anticipation Trump would announce that the conflict would end soon, which he did last night. So, if the market ends down for the day, it is doing what the market always does. It rises in anticipation and sells on the news.
All the leftist late-night comedians mocked Trump’s address, which is incredibly disingenuous since their shows are pre-taped in the afternoon. So, they were mocking a speech they had not heard.
It is hard to measure the moment we are in and just how far some people have gone off the rails. It took a decade for the American public to turn against the war in Vietnam. The American people supported the war in Iraq for three years and the war in Afghanistan for nearly a decade before the polls turned negative.
When the conflict with Iran began, polling immediately showed the public was already against it. Donald Trump could have followed the lead of previous administrations and ignored the growing threat from Iran. Maybe that would have been the “politically smart” thing to do. But it would not have been the right thing to do.
If Trump did nothing and two or three years from now Iran announced it had nuclear weapons and no ships could pass through the Strait of Hormuz without paying tribute to Tehran, leftists would be screaming that Trump slept through his term and put us in a horrible mess.
An Economic Note
Over the past month, the price of gasoline has gone up from $3.00 a gallon to $4.00, and we’re being told that there is no way the economy can survive this. Here’s some perspective.
- During the Great Recession, gas prices peaked at $4.11 a gallon. Adjusted for inflation, that would be $6.00 a gallon today.
- Later during the Obama administration, gas prices spiked again to $5.20 a gallon, when adjusted for inflation.
- In June 2022, gas peaked at $5.02 a gallon or approximately $5.80 when adjusted for inflation.
- Thanks to President Trump, the United States is producing more domestic energy than ever before.
- Manufacturing surged last month to the highest level in four years.
- Small business hiring is strong and wages are growing faster than inflation.
- The unemployment rate is 4.5%. A historically normal unemployment rate is closer to 5.5% or 6%.
The Enemy Within
As frustrating as some misguided commentators may be, at least they aren’t domestic enemies. I don’t use that phrase lightly, but there are some in America today who are so filled with hate for our country and our values that they literally want our military to fail.
They cheer for Iran and the radical Islamic supremacists of Hamas and Hezbollah. They march on our college campuses and in the streets of our major cities.
A Democrat Senate candidate in Michigan said he wouldn’t take a position on the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei because many Muslims in Michigan were still mourning the dead dictator. Just days ago, at a left-wing protest in Philadelphia, traitors cheered the idea of American soldiers coming home in caskets. Ponder that.
That kind of hatred should turn the stomachs of every decent person and boil the blood of every American patriot! Sadly, that hatred of America is what increasingly motivates the left-wing base of the Democrat Party.
Speaking Of Hate. . .
The Toronto Blue Jays wished their Jewish fans a “Happy Passover” in a social media post that included the Star of David. While some appreciate the sentiment, the team got an avalanche of antisemitic hatred.
Some of the disgusting messages accused Israel of committing genocide. Others called for a genocide of Jews. Some said they would never be Blue Jays fans again—just for wishing the Jewish people a happy Passover.
There are two things causing this hatred—left-wing universities riddled with antisemitism indoctrinating our youth and massive migration into Canada and the United States of people consumed with hatred of Jews and often hatred of Christians.
An Encouraging Sign
Herndon Graddick might want to consider hiring a bodyguard or two. The former president of the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) just enraged the gay mafia, especially its militant transgender wing. Here’s what Craddick said during a recent podcast interview:
“I think we need to correct what’s wrong . . . particularly the [transgender] medicalization of children. Teenagers and kids should not be given the power to make these life-altering decisions that medicalization causes.
“We should completely stop doing anything that might harm children, even if it means we admit that we got something really wrong, and my understanding is that we have. . .
“I think that there’s been a lot of fear about discussing things openly for fear of being called transphobic, and I think that we’re at a place that we can really have those conversations without that fear.”
I am glad to see this commonsense statement from a former president of GLAAD. On this point, he is exactly right. And the only reason we can have this conversation without fear is because we have a president who is willing to lead the fight against transgender insanity instead of constantly pushing it on our children the way Joe Biden and Kamala Harris did.
Bye, Bye Bondi
Rumors were circulating over the past 24 hours that Pam Bondi might be “invited” to move on from her role as attorney general. Then, there was a report in a European newspaper this morning that before President Trump spoke last night, he informed Bondi that her time at the Justice Department was over. There were rumors she tried to talk him out of it. Good luck with that!
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general until President Trump’s eventual nominee is confirmed by the Senate. Some sources are reporting that individual could be Lee Zeldin, who has done an outstanding job as EPA administrator.
In announcing the change, President Trump wrote on Truth Social:
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900. We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector.”
