One of the truly heartbreaking aspects of the Great Recession is the difficulty so many returning veterans have in finding employment. While the national unemployment rate is 8.2%, it is nearly 13% for returning veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Contempt Compromise?

After 16 months, it seems that the House leadership finally has Attorney General Eric Holder’s attention. Unfortunately, it took the threat of a contempt citation to get it. We likely won’t know the full details until this evening, but it seems Holder may have blinked first in the standoff over Operation Fast and Furious.

More Bad News

Here’s a coincidence. President Barack Obama delivered a speech on the economy in Cleveland, Ohio, this afternoon. At virtually the exact same time, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney spoke in Cincinnati, Ohio.

It’s a good thing that both candidates were discussing the economy today, because the economic news continues to be discouraging.
