End Of Year Update

Our staff here at American Values is busy going through the checks we received in the mail from the holiday weekend to see if we met our year-end fundraising goal. Most of our supporters give $10, $20 or $30, so it takes time to add it all up. I want to thank everyone who responded for your tremendous generosity. I hope American Values reached its goal. We will provide an update later in the week. Thank you, my friends!

President, Congressional Leaders To Meet Today

President Obama will sit down with congressional leaders this afternoon at the White House to try one last time to hammer out an agreement to avoid going over the fiscal cliff. But there is little hope for a major breakthrough.

According to various reports, both sides see some benefit to going over the cliff. Democrats will have a larger majority in the Senate and a few extra votes in the House of Representatives next year.

Too Late To Avoid The Fiscal Cliff?

President Obama cut short his Hawaiian Christmas vacation and returned to Washington, D.C., this afternoon in order to jumpstart negotiations aimed at avoiding massive across-the-board tax increases on January 1st. While so much of the focus has been on Speaker John Boehner, Barack Obama is president and his party controls the Senate.

Careening Toward The Cliff

Tis the season for miracles, and it may take one at this stage to prevent the country from going over the fiscal cliff. Last night, Speaker John Boehner was forced to pull his “Plan B” off the House floor after a revolt by conservative members of his caucus. All day long the GOP leadership team had expressed confidence. But on the eve of the vote it was obvious they would come up short.

Heading Toward The Cliff

Negotiations between the White House and Capitol Hill aimed at avoiding the fiscal cliff have reportedly broken down. Frustrated by President Obama’s resistance to further spending cuts, Speaker John Boehner announced yesterday that the House of Representatives will vote this evening on two bills.

One cuts spending by $200 billion while minimizing the national security impact of planned sequestration cuts. The second bill extends the Bush tax cuts for everyone making less than $1 million a year.

Benghazi Report Critical Of Clinton State Department

In the aftermath of the September 11th attack on our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, the State Department launched an internal investigation to determine what went wrong. The findings were made public yesterday and I suspect Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got an advanced copy of the report. Perhaps that is why she fainted and suffered a concussion this weekend.

Obama Counteroffers

Tis the season for giving, and President Obama and Speaker John Boehner have been exchanging offers on the fiscal cliff, giving the rest of us headaches.

Over the weekend, Speaker Boehner conceded to raising tax rates, but only on those making more than $1 million. Yesterday President Obama made a counteroffer.

Connecticut Horror

“A voice is heard in Ramah,
mourning and great weeping
Rachel weeping for her children
And refusing to be comforted,
because they are no more.”

BREAKING NEWS

As we are going to press, there is breaking news of a horrific shooting at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. Details are still unfolding, but initial reports suggest as many as 27 people, including 14 children, may be dead. The evil of such an atrocity is incomprehensible, particularly at the time of year when we celebrate the birth of the Child who was sent to save us from sin. Please be in prayer for the victims, their families and the Newtown community.

Handbook For Cultural Surrender

The Wall Street Journal broke a truly shocking story this week about the latest draft Army handbook on how our troops should conduct themselves in Afghanistan. According to left-wing Army bureaucrats, the recent attacks by our Afghan “allies” against U.S.-led coalition troops, that have left 63 of our troops dead, are our fault! Consider this excerpt:
