How Deep Is The ‘Deep State’?
The news that a top FBI agent, involved in both the Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump investigations, is politically compromised is shocking.
The agent, Peter Strzok, was found to have sent text messages that expressed vehement anti-Trump views. Strzok is not just any FBI agent. The New York Times calls him “one of the most experienced and trusted FBI counterintelligence investigators.” If that is true the U.S. is really in trouble.
Strzok LED the investigation of Hillary Clinton’s email server in his role as the No. 2 official in the FBI’s counterintelligence division. He then was added to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team of investigators going after Trump. There was already concern that many of the lawyers on Mueller’s team are consistent donors to the Democrat Party. Now we learn that a FBI career professional on the team is also an anti-Trump partisan.
Strzok was removed from the team this summer when his text messages were discovered. When the House Intelligence Committee noticed his transfer this summer they asked the FBI to explain the circumstances. The FBI has refused repeated requests for information.
Committee Chairman Rep. Devin Nunes is outraged by the stonewalling. In a statement Saturday Nunes said, “By hiding from Congress, and from the American people, documented political bias by a key FBI head investigator for both the Russia collusion probe and the Clinton email investigation, the FBI and DOJ engaged in a willful attempt to thwart Congress' constitutional oversight responsibility.” Nunes is so upset that he is threatening contempt of Congress charges. President Trump weighed in too, tweeting “Report: ‘ANTI-TRUMP FBI AGENT LED CLINTON EMAIL PROBE’ Now it all starts to make sense!”
This breaking story lends credence to the strong suspicion that deeply embedded political partisans throughout key government agencies are trying to nullify the 2016 presidential election.
ABC Blows It
Late on Friday ABC reporter Brian Ross erroneously reported that Donald Trump, while a candidate for president, instructed Michael Flynn to make contact with Russia. Seven hours later ABC was forced to correct the report and admit it was after the election, when Trump was president-elect. It is very common for an incoming administration to make contact with foreign governments. Doing so is not illegal.
Ross’s story caused a 300-point drop in the stock market intraday. It also set off a round of celebrations by various media commentators who are hoping President Trump will be forced out of office.
A little later ABC announced Brian Ross would be suspended for four weeks without pay “effective immediately.”
This is not the first time Ross has made an egregious error in his reporting at the expense of conservatives. After the tragic shooting at a movie theater in Aurora Colorado in 2012, Ross reported that he had connected the shooter to a Tea Party website. The report was totally false, but it demonstrates how some in the media wanted to demonize the Tea Party movement.
