Losing Hope
There is general sadness in Washington among conservatives over the news that Hope Hicks resigned yesterday as White House Communications Director. Hicks has been working with the Trump family in various capacities since 2012 and joined the Trump Organization full-time in 2014.
The media are suggesting that her resignation was spurred in part by her nine-hour testimony this week before the House Intelligence Committee. But the timing appears to be coincidental. Our friends in the Administration, including Kellyanne Conway, are saying that Hicks had expressed her intentions to leave a few weeks ago.
All presidents, but especially this one, need people they can trust, and Donald Trump definitely had a great deal of trust in Hope Hicks. While the president can obviously talk to her anytime he wants, it is sad that she will not be in the White House regularly any longer.
Meanwhile, it is infuriating to see the media and the left (I know that's redundant) talking about the turnover at the White House. The decent men and women who work there, sometimes 20 hours a day, are routinely called "white supremacists," "Nazis," "bigots," "traitors" and "Russian pawns."
They have been harassed in public, as they are living and working in a city dominated by "tolerant" liberals who voted 91% to 4% for Hillary Clinton. (Third party candidates and write-ins got more votes than Trump!)
The left has said it would ensure that they never work anywhere else. And, to top it all off, many of them now know that their conversations with their colleagues during the campaign and the transition period may well have been monitored by Obama operatives embedded in our intelligence agencies.
Gee, what's not to like?
Having served in the Reagan White House during the Iran Contra controversy, I know how difficult and draining it can be. While Trump seems impervious to the attacks, many others are not, and serving in the White House has to be one of the most difficult jobs they will ever do. Please keep these public servants in your prayers.
What The Left Thinks
We know what the typical progressive like Hillary Clinton really thinks about the Americans who are responsible for making 79% of the U.S. land mass red on Election Day 2016. In her most infamous and revealing speech, Hillary called Middle Americans "deplorable" and "irredeemable."
I'm not sure she ever used language like that about radical Islamists. Usually the left wants to negotiate with our enemies, so they must think they are redeemable. But Middle America stands in the way of creating the nation the left desperately wants.
So when leftists like Joy Behar attack the faith of Vice President Mike Pence, they are just using him as a stand in for you. They think you are mentally ill if you listen for God's direction in your life.
When they call the NRA "child murderers," they are not talking about Wayne LaPierre or the folks working at the NRA's headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia. They are talking about the millions of Americans who own guns for hunting, self-defense, collecting or any other reason protected by our Constitution under the Second Amendment.
When you see a leading left-wing group suggest it should be more difficult for our men and women in uniform to vote, while places like Chicago are making it easy for illegal immigrants to vote, it shows how the left feels about our military.
When the mayor of Oakland warns criminal illegal immigrants of an impending enforcement operation, it shows what little respect the left has for law enforcement.
When millionaire social justice warriors refuse to stand for our national anthem, it shows what the left thinks about America and the patriots who love her.
This is not a new or profound thought, but it is worth repeating. Our faith and our values are not the problem. Don't ever believe that. Not even for a second.
Conservatives did not start the culture war. The left did.
Whether it was taking prayer out of the public schools, undermining the sanctity of life, attacking the idea of nationhood, citizenship and borders, or redefining biology, the left is waging a cultural jihad to marginalize normalcy and make traditional values unspeakable.
Minister Of Hate
Minister Louis Farrakhan is back in the news. He is a disgusting, hateful anti-Semite. He has called Judaism a "gutter religion."
Over the weekend Farrakhan declared that "the powerful Jews are my enemy," and "white folks are going down." He also said, "Jews were responsible for all of this filth and degenerate behavior that Hollywood is putting out, turning men into women and women into men."
Kudos to CNN's Jake Tapper and The Washington Examiner for exposing Farrakhan's latest outrage.
What Farrakhan said is disturbing enough. But what is even more disturbing is that the left continues to play footsie with Farrakhan.
When David Duke tried to become part of the conservative movement, conservative leaders, including me, did not hesitate to publicly denounce him. But many on the left seem unable or unwilling to do the same with Farrakhan.
Barack Obama stayed in a church that gave Farrakhan an award. And we recently learned that then-Senator Obama and other members of Congress had a great time hosting this minister of hate at a secret meeting.
Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), now the deputy chairman of the Democrat National Committee, has repeatedly lied about his relationship with Farrakhan. Of course, Farrakhan blames the Jews for Ellison's deception.
I noticed Nancy Pelosi denounced the Trump Administration and ICE agents this week for "terrorizing innocent immigrant families" in pursuit of a "blatantly bigoted . . . agenda." I checked Pelosi's website and saw no condemnation of Louis Farrakhan's latest blatantly bigoted speech.
