Media Pile On
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's email scandal continues to grow. Each new day seems to bring a new revelation, and her explanations are falling flat.
For example, even though we now know that Clinton's unsecured personal server was full of classified information, she has asserted that nothing she received was ever "marked classified."
Earlier this week, she told reporters, "I did not send classified material, and I did not receive any material that was marked or designated classified."
As secretary of state, Clinton was fourth in the line of presidential succession. Presumably, she was handling sensitive information from foreign ministers, ambassadors and intelligence officials. As Reuters reports today, some information is "born classified." As secretary of state, she knew that.
It is difficult to say where this is all headed. Some are pointing out that her husband had to issue a presidential pardon to his CIA director for keeping classified information on his personal computer -- precisely what Mrs. Clinton did.
But the media seem to realize there is a serious story here. Consider these headlines from the past few days:
"Hillary Clinton's Communications Problem May Go Beyond Email," CBS News, August 19th.
"Government Inquiry Into Clinton Emails Likely To Widen," National Public Radio, August 19th.
"Judge Says Hillary Clinton's Private Emails Violated Policy," Politico, August 20th.
"Watchdog: Two National Security Laws Appear Broken In Clinton Email Scandal," Washington Free Beacon, August 20th.
"U.S. Said To Probe How Classified Data Got On Clinton Server," Bloomberg, August 20th.
