Trump Gets Labor Love
Yesterday at the White House, President Trump met with ten top business leaders. What struck me about the meeting was that this was a businessman talking to businessmen and women. He vowed to slash regulations, ideally by as much as 75%.
He vowed to cut the corporate tax rate, currently among the highest in the world, to 15% if Congress cooperates. But he was clear about what he expected from them -- to buy American and build their companies in America. President Trump told these business leaders, "What we want to do is bring manufacturing back to our country. . . We want to make our products here."
George W. Bush would not have been so bold with American businesses. Barack Obama burdened American companies with taxes and regulations.
Here's a president who is not at war with businesses and is doing everything he can to create a competitive business environment. In return, he expects them to act like American corporations so that our citizens enjoy the benefits of a growing economy.
As intriguing as that meeting was, a more fascinating meeting took place later in the day when President Trump met several labor union chiefs, all of whom had endorsed Hillary Clinton. Those labor leaders praised Trump during the meeting, so much so that the president called the media in to hear what they were saying.
After the meeting, one of the labor leaders said, "It was by far the best meeting I've had [in Washington]. . . The details we just heard from the president, we're very excited about."
I guarantee you that from the suites of George Soros to the salons of Hollywood and the faculty lounges of our college campuses, that meeting and similar quotes struck fear and loathing in the hearts of leftists everywhere.
Just as Trump would not accept that Iowa, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin had become unwinnable, he is not accepting the conventional wisdom that large swaths of America are off limits to economic growth and that they will not accept his outstretched hand. In a few years time, we may be hearing a lot about "Trump Democrats," just like we used to hear about "Reagan Democrats."
By the way, today President Trump met with CEOs from the auto industry, and signed executive orders to ease construction of the Keystone XL pipeline.
White House English Only
Numerous reports have noted another change at the Trump White House: the White House website is now English only. The Spanish language version is gone.
Some on the left will decry the change as evidence of bigotry. They are wrong.
When you come to America the best thing you can do to show respect and share in the prosperity of America is to learn our language. In the United States, English is our national language, and polls show that Americans overwhelmingly support making English our official language.
About That March. . .
For all its hype, the Women's March on Washington was a massive left-wing temper tantrum. It was an embarrassing display of obscene immaturity. [WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGES]
But here's something you may not know: One of the national co-chairs of the march, Linda Sarsour, is an advocate of Sharia law.
Sarsour once tweeted, "You'll know when you're living under Sharia law if suddenly all your loans and credit cards become interest free. Sounds nice, doesn't it?" She has also defended the Saudi regime, which does not allow women to drive.
Sarsour also has terrorist connections. The New York Times reported in 2012 that "Members of her family had been arrested on accusations of supporting Hamas." The Daily Caller reports that last month she posed for pictures with an ex-Hamas operative.
Irony does not begin to describe millions of women marching for so-called "women's rights" under the leadership of a woman who is a defender of fundamentalist Islam, which is oppressing women all over the world.
I first noticed something odd about the march when I saw interspersed among the foul, vulgar signs that some women (and even children) were holding, other signs that read, "Free Birth Control, Free Palestine" or some variant.
We have reported for years on the bizarre alliance between the radical left and radical Islam. It is the continuation of what we have seen on university campuses, where young socialists make common cause with Palestinian student groups to fight and harass conservative students and those who support the U.S./Israeli alliance.
We have seen it in Europe where socialist and green parties united with Muslim voting blocs in London to elect the first Muslim mayor of a European capital. We have seen it in the Black Lives Matter movement, where Palestinian activists exploited the Ferguson riots and in a Black Lives Matter platform that accused Israel of genocide.
This is a dangerous and formidable alliance, and something that open border politicians in Congress should ponder when they consider what our immigration policies should be.
Gold Star Families Attacked
Remember Khazir Khan? He is the Gold Star father who endorsed Hillary Clinton at last year's Democratic National Convention. He became a household name because the media routinely trotted him out whenever they wanted to attack Donald Trump as a bigot.
Since the election, Mr. Khan attacked Sen. Jeff Sessions, President Trump's nominee to be attorney general.
But have you heard of Gold Star family members Amy Looney or Ryan Manion? Looney's husband, Navy SEAL Lt. Brendan Looney, was killed in Afghanistan in 2010. Manion's brother, Marine Lt. Travis Manion, was killed in Iraq in 2007.
Amy Looney and Ryan Manion were on their way to the Veterans Inaugural Ball Friday night when they were cornered and attacked by scores of hateful, anti-Trump protestors.
But you won't hear about that from the left-wing media.
