Faith Under Siege
Over the years, many elected officials, including some in the GOP establishment, have argued that while they don't like abortion, it's not the biggest problem facing the country today. Well, I suggest it certainly symbolizes the biggest problem America faces today.
Are we still one nation under God? I hope so, because that's how we obtain God's blessings. But if we still desire God's blessings, we cannot continue to treat innocent unborn children like Styrofoam cups to be disposed of at whim.
Sadly, the United States has some of the worst pro-abortion laws in the world. The Supreme Court has made abortion the equivalent of a cherished right, a right that often supersedes other rights.
The right to protest might be limited if it is near an abortion clinic. If your pastor preaches that life is sacred, your church may be attacked. The left wants to force Christian doctors to perform abortions. It even tried to force nuns to pay for contraception. So, abortion even puts religious freedom at risk.
Some "evangelical progressives" who endorsed Joe Biden, people like Rich Cizik, John Huffman and Jerushah Duford, also endorsed a party and a candidate committed to abortion on demand. As I noted Friday, polling shows that 80% of Americans oppose abortion in the third trimester.
Let's be clear about it: One political party will make you pay for abortions, the other will not. One political party believes abortion is a positive good, the other wants to end abortion on demand.
Every day we should thank God that we live in America, where religious liberty is enshrined in our Constitution. But we can't relax. There are warning signs that Christians will be facing persecution here in the United States. There have been attacks against churches and Christian leaders who resist the radical gay rights movement and the powerful abortion lobby.
The latest outrage involves a disgusting attack on a statue in Arkansas known as the Christ of the Ozarks. There are many ways left-wing radicals can defame Christianity. They can claim there is no God. They can insist that Jesus is a myth. But in this case, these left-wing radicals hung a huge banner on this 65-foot tall statue of Jesus that read, "God Bless Abortions."
It's hard to imagine a more overt sign of hatred than that. God and His son Jesus are the creators of life, and through them they are the promise of eternal life.
As our country moves further left, we will see more of these outrageous attacks on faith. History shows that attacks on churches always lead to physical assaults on Christians.
You may not be interested in government and politics, but government and politics are interested in you. It's time to become an active Christian citizen, and to fight back against the left's attacks on our faith.
Fighting For Freedom
Mass demonstrations erupted in communist Cuba over the weekend. Havana is now deploying troops, and I suspect the uprising will be quickly put down. Cuba's communist regime may not be good at much, but it knows how to crush dissent.
Sadly, the political establishment in the United States was largely silent. The White House finally issued a statement today expressing support for the Cuban people. But the statement appeared to be an attempt to correct the bungled reaction from the State Department and other officials who initially suggested the protests were all about COVID.
The New York Times inadvertently got closer to the truth when they noted that demonstrators were chanting, "'Freedom' and other anti-government slogans." Why would "Freedom" be an anti-government slogan? Because it's a communist country!
Meanwhile, Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other proud socialists are strangely silent. Sanders appeared more upset about billionaires going to space than he was about hundreds of thousands of people being denied freedom under socialism and communism.
Spy On Your Family?
A few weeks ago, the New York Times wrote this about communist China's takeover of Hong Kong: "Neighbors are urged to report on one another. Children are taught to look for traitors."
This is Hong Kong one year after the Chinese Communist Party crushed the city's pro-democracy movement. It sounds like what our FBI has become after just six months of the Biden Administration.
Believe it or not, the FBI is asking people to spy on their family members and neighbors. It's true. It's another example of the Biden Administration's efforts to exploit the events of January 6th. The FBI is on the lookout for evidence of extreme right-wing views. But what exactly qualifies as "extreme"?
Some left-wing activists and commentators think that the American flag is "disturbing," and a sign of "white supremacy." During the height of the COVID lockdown, some patriotic parents took their children outside to face the flags on their homes to say the Pledge of Allegiance like they used to do in school. Should they be reported to the FBI?
I grew up watching "The Untouchables," a TV series about Special Agent Eliot Ness. To this day, I have tremendous respect for law enforcement. There are many decent men and women who serve in the FBI.
But the FBI leadership has been co-opted by the left. Hillary Clinton was exonerated after she exposed classified national security secrets, while the FBI spied on the Trump campaign. It spent years promoting the conspiracy theory that Trump colluded with Russia. He did not.
The FBI's mandate is to go after terrorists, organized crime, political corruption and foreign spies. It has no business going after American patriots.
Trump Wins Again
More than 1,500 conservative activists gathered in Dallas, Texas, for a CPAC event this weekend. Former President Donald Trump addressed the crowd, as he has done for many years now. He fired up the boisterous audience for 90 minutes, and made the case of the conservative agenda like few can.
Not surprisingly, Trump dominated CPAC's poll, taking 70% of the vote in a hypothetical 2024 primary. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis finished second with 21%. No other candidate got more than 1%. If Trump doesn't run in 2024, 68% of CPAC attendees chose DeSantis as their candidate.
Trump is clearly in a category all by himself in his ability to energize the conservative base.
In much the same way that the Reagan agenda essentially redefined the mainstream of the Republican Party, Trump's "America First" agenda represents the new Republican Party. For example, Trump criticized how ineptly Joe Biden has handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan. But he did not question the need to get out after 20 years.
Trump talks naturally about middle America, just as Reagan did. Reagan was a movie star, and Trump has been called a "blue-collar billionaire." Both understood the values that animate Middle America, and why so Americans feel betrayed by our corporate, cultural and political elites.
Here's some advice for the other potential 2024 contenders stuck in the single digits: If you want to be in the top tier, you must embrace the Reagan/Trump working-class vision for America. By the way, working-class people come in all colors.
