Spying On Churches

Rep. Jim Jordan, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, issued a formal subpoena yesterday to FBI Director Christopher Wray. Chairman Jordan is demanding all relevant information from the FBI regarding its outrageous scheme to spy on Catholic churches. 

In his subpoena, Jordan blasted the FBI’s response so far as “substandard and partial, with significant redactions.” Translation: The FBI’s response has been largely useless.

After this scheme was disclosed by a whistleblower, Director Wray condemned it, and insisted that it was just the work of one agent in one field office who wrote one memo. But Chairman Jordan has uncovered evidence indicating it went well beyond that. 

The FBI evidently had “at least one undercover agent” actually infiltrating Catholic churches in the Richmond, Virginia, area to establish so-called “tripwire investigations” on domestic terrorism.

Jordan also alleges that the FBI was attempting to “develop sources among the clergy . . . to inform on Americans practicing their faith.”

This is literally what the KGB did in the old Soviet Union. 

This is literally what Xi Jinping’s secret police do in communist China today. 

Speaking of communist China, an entire congregation of 63 Chinese Christians got visas to travel to Thailand. While there, they went through the legal process of becoming refugees to the United States. 

They were arrested late last month for overstaying their visas. But by some miracle, they were granted permission to come to the United States so they can worship freely. 

It would be tragic if they’re long journey here resulted in them watching religious liberty being smothered by Marxists again, as many refugees from communist China are trying to warn us. (Here, here and here.)

Sadly, our federal law enforcement agencies are increasingly infiltrated by the left and gripped by neo-Marxist ideology. They can’t find any organization called “Antifa” because they’re too busy infiltrating churches and hiding Hunter’s laptop.

Time To Overturn Tables

How surprised can we really be by these latest revelations? 

This is the FBI that sent at least a dozen heavily-armed agents to the home of a Catholic father to arrest him in front of his children in a dawn raid. 

Attorney General Garland defended the raid, saying that local offices determine their own security needs. Whoever thought Mark Houck was a threat, after he volunteered to surrender himself, should be fired! That raid was political theater and a gross abuse of power meant to intimidate Houck and other pro-life activists.

This is the same FBI that took the time to dig up old cases against pro-life protesters at abortion clinics while crime is exploding.

This is the same FBI that targeted concerned parents at school board meetings.

This is the same FBI that coordinated the raid on Donald Trump’s home with the Biden White House.

Much of the FBI’s intimidation is aimed right now at Catholics. In my view, Catholic leaders should be turning over some tables right about now and mobilizing their congregations. 

Some people believe, however, that they are not saying more because certain Catholic organizations have been instrumental in enabling Biden’s open borders policies that are bringing millions of people illegally into America. I don’t want to believe that’s true, but it seems like a rational explanation.

Assaulting Faith

Loudoun County, Virginia, is in many ways “Ground Zero” in the parental revolt against the leftist indoctrination in our schools. Among other outrageous things, the school board covered up two sexual assaults committed by a transgender student, and then the local Soros-funded prosecutor attempted to put one victim’s father in jail.

If that’s not neo-Marxist tyranny, I don’t know what is! 

Well, here’s the latest sign of decline in Loudoun County. 

The school system allows teachers to use preferred pronouns or phrases in email signature blocks that are intended to express the teacher’s personal views on a variety of subjects. 

But when one teacher included John 3:16 (not the whole verse, just the citation) in her signature block, Loudoun school officials ordered her to cease and desist because that would be the establishment of a religion. 

Our capable friends at Liberty Counsel are handling the case and are confident they will win it.

A brief observation: The use of preferred pronouns that are grammatically incorrect because they do not align with biological sex is a hotly contested issue that deeply divides the nation, and Loudoun County has no problem with that. 

But seeing the citation that declares God’s love for the world is somehow abhorrent. So much for progressive “tolerance.”

I don’t expect you to take a particular interest in Loudoun County, Virginia. But I do want you to understand that what’s happening there isn’t unusual. It’s happening all over the country as neo-Marxist radicals are taking over our schools, while hard-working Americans are too distracted to notice. 

This is happening in a county that was once solidly red but “transitioned” to blue in part because its future voters were being indoctrinated by leftist ideologues.

Biden’s Weakness

Last week, I warned that Joe Biden’s weakness might lead to a major war in the Middle East. I believe it has already caused one in Europe. Well, now there are strong indications that it may well cause a major war in the Pacific.

French President Emmanuel Macron recently traveled to China to grovel before communist dictator Xi Jinping. He was there while communist China is surrounding Taiwan with very provocative military maneuvers. 

Incredibly, Macron signaled to Xi that Taiwan is not something France really cares about. It’s a problem between Beijing and Washington. 

He also told reporters that Europe needs to be more independent from the United States when it comes to China policy, and that he wants to establish Europe as the world’s “third superpower” between the United States and communist China.

As soon as Macron’s comments hit the press, communist China immediately tightened the noose around Taiwan.

By the way, it’s not just France. The Saudis are cutting their own deals with communist China as Biden’s weakness becomes obvious to the entire world.

Is there anyone who seriously thinks that Macron would even try to pull off his Beijing stunt if Donald Trump was still in office?

But Joe Biden occupies the Oval Office now. Macron and other European leaders realize they have such a patsy in the White House that they were willing to publicly tell our enemies in Beijing that America is on its own. 

If European leaders won’t stand with us in the Pacific against a rising communist China, why should we be depleting our military and increasing our national debt to do in Ukraine what the Europeans are unwilling and unable to do? 

Maybe our foreign policy establishment and various hawks should take Macron up on his offer. If he wants to be more independent of America, he can start now by taking over responsibility for Ukraine. 

We’ll take care of communist China, and Macron and his socialist buddies can position themselves between Zelensky and Putin. 

If you think the riots in Paris are bad now, just wait until they find out that Macron isn’t only going to cut their Social Security, he’s also going to make them spend more on defense!
