Standing Firm
This weekend, hundreds of evangelical leaders, including me, issued a response to Christianity Today challenging editor-in-chief Mark Galli's outrageous allegations against President Trump.
I can't remember the last time Christianity Today was quoted in the mainstream media. But now that Galli has joined the liberal lynch mob to attack President Trump, the magazine is suddenly referred to as "the influential Christianity Today." Galli even appeared on "Face The Nation" yesterday. The hypocrisy in all this is breathtaking.
Nobody in major media has shown any respect for Christianity Today. I don't recall seeing Galli in any meetings with major public policy implications. He seemingly capitulated in the struggle to preserve religious liberty here at home, and I have never seen him in any significant meeting regarding Christian persecution overseas.
But now that he's called for Donald Trump's removal from office, the media are excited to elevate Galli as a leader of evangelicals. To borrow a phrase, he's a "useful idiot" in the left's desperate impeachment sham.
Following Trump's election, Galli wrote a column in which he described himself as an "elite evangelical," and seemed horrified that so many Christians would support Trump. Using rhetoric reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's "basket of deplorables," Galli wrote:
"I know hardly anyone, let alone any evangelical Christian who voted for Trump. I describe evangelicals like me as 'elite' evangelicals . . . and this class of evangelicals has discovered that we have family members so different they seem like aliens in our midst. These other evangelicals often haven't finished college, and if they have jobs (and apparently a lot of them don't), they are blue-collar jobs or entry level work."
On "Face The Nation" yesterday, he made another revealing statement, saying, "We want the United States -- everybody, left, right, black, white, of every variety of sexualities -- we want them to prosper."
With all due respect to Mr. Galli, I don't know any evangelical Christians who talk about "every variety of sexualities."
In 2013, Barack Obama addressed Planned Parenthood's national convention. He closed his speech by saying, "Thank you, Planned Parenthood. God bless you." I remember at the time being outraged by Obama's suggestion that the God who tells us to "choose life" would bless the nation's largest abortion business.
This was also the same president who tried to bankrupt the Little Sisters of the Poor, who redefined marriage and who dismissed the Islamic State while leaving Christians in the birthplace of the faith to suffer genocide.
But I do not recall Mr. Galli ever suggesting that Barack Obama was "profoundly immoral" or "morally unfit" to be president.
On a personal note, I want to thank everyone who took the time to write over the weekend to encourage me and our staff to stand firm. THANK YOU!
I promise, with your continued prayers and support, we will continue to fight the good fight for faith, family and freedom!
Tis The Season . . . For Scrooges
Do you have a Christmas tree? Did you decorate it with strings of beautiful lights or stands of tinsel? Did you wrap your presents with glossy paper and shiny bows? Are there Christmas cards proudly displayed on your mantel?
Well, it might be a good idea to pull the shades. The radical environmental movement not only wants the manger out of the public square, they want the tree out of your home because the planet is on fire!
They want you to decorate with "orange peel garlands," and your ornaments, if you must have a tree, should be made from dried fruit.
The entire political left is turning into one giant Scrooge!
In England, the Coca-Cola Company was forced to cancel the final stop of its iconic Christmas Truck due to threatened protests from radical environmentalists. The company issued a statement, which read in part:
"We . . . had hoped we would be able to complete our tour as planned. But we have been advised the protest would make it difficult to guarantee the safety and enjoyment of people visiting the experience and the venue that day."
It's laughable, but we laugh off too much. There is a radical agenda on the left to denigrate and downplay Christmas.
Many leftists dismiss the idea that there is a God. Most of them are too busy worshipping the Earth. So of course they dismiss the idea that his Son came down to Earth as a baby in a manger.
And if you're cutting down trees, polluting the planet with your tinsel, and consuming large amounts of roast beef (those dreaded cow farts again!) while you celebrate a mythical messiah, you're part of the problem!
Please stand with us as we fight the radical left's war on Christmas!
