Trump’s Choice

Former President Donald Trump announced today that Ohio Senator J.D. Vance will be his vice presidential running mate, just as our unofficial poll predicted last week.

Vance is the epitome of the American Dream. He was born into a working-class family in southeastern Ohio. His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother struggled with addiction issues. Vance joined the Marines after high school and served in the Iraq War.

After his military service, Vance graduated from Yale Law School and moved to California to work for a venture capital firm. In 2016, Vance wrote “Hillbilly Elegy,” a memoir about his life growing up in rural America and how our cultural elites have turned their backs on working-class Americans, a major theme of Donald Trump’s America First agenda.

Vance was not a Trump fan in 2016. But like many skeptical conservatives, he quickly came to appreciate Trump’s focus on rebuilding America’s industrial base, bringing jobs home, and putting our workers first. He apologized for his past criticism of Trump and said he was “a great president.”

Given his upbringing, Vance relates to the challenges confronting working-class Americans and the “forgotten man and woman.” He has the potential to appeal to voters in key states such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin.

He’s an interesting choice for another reason. Donald Trump wants to ensure that his legacy is more than just the next four years. He wants to ensure that the MAGA movement endures and that the Republican Party does not return to its swampy establishment ways.

At 39 years old, Vance represents generational change, a “passing of the torch” from one era to the next. He will ably serve Donald Trump and could well lead the country for another eight years.

The Hater-In-Chief

Joe Biden came into office promising to unite the country, a noble goal after the chaos and divisions caused by the pandemic. But instead, he’s done the exact opposite. Joe Biden never missed an opportunity to divide Americans and inflame racial tension, whether it was denouncing voter integrity legislation as “Jim Crow 2.0” or smearing half the country as “semi-fascist.”

Last night, Biden addressed the nation from the Oval Office. Of course, he struggled to get through his remarks, referring to the “battle box” instead of the “ballot box.”

But the man who has directed the persecution and prosecution of Donald Trump, the man who has called men and women of faith “Christian nationalists,” who said Donald Trump is “Putin’s puppet,” accused Trump of wanting to be a dictator, and lied about Trump praising neo-Nazis -- that so-called “nice guy” called for calm and lectured the rest of us about toning down our rhetoric.

Do you understand what’s behind that? The left is desperately trying to escape justice for what they have done. They don’t want to be held responsible for the vicious atmosphere of hate that they and they alone created.

Biden has called Trump a “genuine threat to this nation. He’s a threat to our freedom. He’s a threat to our democracy.” Biden told leftist activists and donors, “It’s time to put Trump in the bullseye.” Multiple Hollywood celebrities have compared Trump to Hitler and fantasized about his death.

There are many people on social media who are furious that the shooter failed. It is the most disgusting poison you could imagine. Where did they get these ideas? From the leftist socialist establishment that controls academia, the media, and social media.

Meanwhile, law enforcement authorities keep saying that the shooter’s motive is unclear. What more do they need to know? He obviously hated Donald Trump. He was a creature of the left’s hate indoctrination. But I suspect they are setting the stage to say, “We’ll never know.”

Not Just The Fringe

The left’s hate is not isolated to just the fringes of the internet. Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn, is a major donor to progressives causes. Like many billionaires, he has an adviser, Dmitri Mehlhorn, who helps direct his political efforts.

Mehlhorn sent out an email to sympathetic reporters suggesting that they might want to consider the possibility that the whole thing was staged by Trump to ensure an iconic photo that would swing the election his way.

How insane and filled with hate must that man be to think this way? Trump arranged for a bullet to come within a millimeter of his brain for a good photo op?

Mr. Hoffman desperately needs to find more rational advisers.

Faith Under Fire

While President Donald Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, ended in an assassination attempt, the rally demonstrated the power of Faith, Family, and Freedom.

Faith because many Americans immediately started praying when they heard the news, and because millions believe God’s hand protected Donald Trump and the country.

What’s at stake is our freedom.

But family was dramatically on display. As soon as the first shots rang out, Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief, instantly threw his body over his family to shield them from harm. He took the bullet.

Comperatore is another example of Christian sacrifice. This man was willing to die for his family -- for his wife and daughters. It is the essence of Christianity. This is what we are all fighting for.

To better understand what kind of man Corey Comperatore was, here is a powerful excerpt of a social media post written by his grieving daughter, Allyson.

“What was supposed to be an exciting day that we had all looked forward to (ESPECIALLY my dad), turned into the most traumatizing experiences someone could imagine. . . But I want everyone to know what the media will not cover, and will not say about him.

“He was the best dad a girl could ever ask for. My sister and I never needed for anything. You call, he would answer, and he would do whatever it is you needed, and if he didn't know how he would figure out how. He could talk and make friends with anyone, which he was doing all day yesterday and loved every minute of it. He was a man of God, loved Jesus fiercely, and also looked after our church and our members as family.

“The media will not tell you that he died a real-life super hero. They are not going to tell you how quickly he threw my mom and I to the ground. They are not going to tell you that he shielded my body from the bullet that came at us. He loved his family. He truly loved us enough to take a real bullet for us.”

Corey Comperatore was a patriot. He loved Jesus. He loved America. The left would call him a “Christian nationalist” and a “danger to democracy.” They couldn’t be more wrong. Corey Comperatore is exactly the kind of man who made America great and without whom our nation is doomed.

By the way, a GoFundMe page set up for the victims and families of Saturday’s shooting has raised more than $4.2 million. The generosity of the American people is truly inspiring!

A Huge Court Victory

Federal Judge Aileen Cannon, who is presiding over the Mar-a-Lago documents case, ruled today that Special Counsel Jack Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional and, therefore, she dismissed the case.

When the presidential immunity decision was announced on July 1, Justice Clarence Thomas wrote a concurring opinion saying that Jack Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional.

Why? Because there is no law that allows the attorney general to bestow a private citizen with powers that exceed those of every U.S. attorney who is appointed by the president and confirmed by the Senate.

That is not a fringe opinion. It is a view held by many conservatives and legal scholars, including former Reagan Attorney General Ed Meese.

Citing Thomas’s opinion, Judge Cannon agreed with his reasoning and dismissed the case. The Biden Justice Department is certain to appeal Cannon’s decision. But that process will take time, and the case could well end up before the Supreme Court.

Once again, we all owe Clarence Thomas a debt of gratitude!

I was chairman of the Citizens Committee to Confirm Clarence Thomas back in 1991. And every day since then, I have been extremely proud of the role I played in getting this incredible justice on the Supreme Court.
