Lock Your Doors -- Huge Prison Breakout
During a White House event with local law enforcement officials yesterday, President Obama once again pitched his quasi-amnesty plan for illegal immigrants. He did so under the guise of easing the burden on local police.
Here's the logic: Because the federal government isn't enforcing our immigration laws, some states and communities have taken it upon themselves to do what they can. But Obama told the officers that those popular state laws enabling local authorities to assist with immigration enforcement were "not a good use of our resources. It's not smart."
The president's comments come on the heels of a report detailing the federal government's release of tens of thousands of criminal aliens. According to CBS News, the 36,007 convicted illegal immigrants released "represented nearly 88,000 convictions, including: 193 homicide convictions, 426 sexual assault convictions, 303 kidnapping convictions, 1,075 aggravated assault convictions … and 16,070 drunk or drugged driving convictions."
What is not smart is releasing hundreds of murders, rapists and drunk drivers back into our communities!
Responding to this news, Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas said, "This would be considered the worst prison break in American history, except it was sanctioned by the president and perpetrated by our own immigration officials. …They willfully and knowingly put the interests of criminal immigrants before the safety and security of the American people."
Speaking Of "Not Smart"
The federal government continues to give away billions of your hard-earned tax dollars to illegal immigrants. The latest report from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration finds that in 2013 the IRS made between $13 and $15 billion in "improper payments" related to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).
This scandal has been going on for years. Conservatives in Congress have tried repeatedly to stop it, but liberals keep blocking them. For example, when it was learned that last December's budget agreement cut benefits to our veterans, Senate conservatives tried to restore those funds by closing the EITC loophole.
That would seem like an easy choice: taxpayer dollars for veterans or illegal immigrants. But the measure was tabled. And the fraud continues.
Obamacare Means Less Choice
Critics warned that Obamacare's big government, one size fits all approach to health care would, among other things, inevitably lead to limits on our choices. Those concerns were dismissed, and the president repeatedly assured the American people that if they liked their current health plan and their doctors they would be able to keep them.
But just in case you were holding out hope, consider what one insurance company executive told the New York Times this week: "We have to break people away from the choice habit that everyone has. We're all trying to break away from this fixation on open access and broad networks."
The reason that insurance companies want to break your "choice habit" is because of the myriad of Obamacare mandates. When big government makes so many demands, that drives up costs. One way for insurance companies to control those costs is to limit your choices of doctors and access to hospitals. Unfortunately, many cancer patients are finding that they are victims of these limited networks, unable to see doctors they once had and locked out of top clinics.
It's ironic that the left demands "choice" when it comes abortion, same-sex marriage and marijuana, but it wants to take away your choices when it comes to everyday activities like what temperature your thermostat is set on, what foods you eat and which doctors you can see.
