Christie In The Crosshairs

Finally! The media have woken up and are focusing on scandals. What took them so long?

If you think I'm referring to the IRS scandal, sorry. That's not it. Is Benghazi on the front page of the New York Times? No. In fact, as we have reported, the New York Times has devoted its resources to aiding the Benghazi cover-up. Fast and Furious? Nope. Are the extra-constitutional actions by the president getting attention? Not that either.

Gates Unleashed

A book by former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates has Washington buzzing today. In Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War, Gates blasts the Obama White House as excessively controlling and obsessed with politics. According to the Washington Post's Bob Woodward, Gates' book "simmers with disappointment in Obama" and "outright contempt for Vice President Biden." For example:

High Court Delays Same-Sex Marriages In Utah

The Supreme Court this morning surprised some observers when it ordered a halt to same-sex "marriages" being performed in Utah.

The week before Christmas, federal Judge Robert Shelby sadly struck down Utah's state marriage amendment, which protected normal marriage. The amendment was supported by 66% of the state's voters in 2004. Utah officials are appealing Shelby's attack on normal marriage, and have sought to block its enforcement while their appeal proceeds.

Dialogue With Terrorists?

On Christmas Day the Egyptian government issued a decree declaring the Muslim Brotherhood to be a terrorist organization. The Obama Administration, which had thrown its support behind the former government of Muslim Brotherhood leader Mohamed Morsi, protested the designation.

"We think it is essential for Egypt to have an inclusive political process," State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said. "There needs to be dialogue and political participation across the political spectrum."

Victory!

Late Friday afternoon, A&E announced that it would resume filming its hit reality show Duck Dynasty with the family patriarch Phil Robertson back on the set. A&E's decision came five days after Cracker Barrel quickly reversed itself after facing an avalanche of customer complaints when it pulled Duck Dynasty merchandise off its shelves.

Tehran Defies Obama

Remember Obama's much-hyped nuclear deal with Iran, announced just before Thanksgiving? It was supposed to delay Iran's nuclear program for six months, allowing time to negotiate a more comprehensive agreement. Predictably, the mullahs are using the time to their advantage.

Baghdad Christmas Slaughter

Christmas in the Middle East was once again marred by violence from radical Islamists. Two car bombings in Baghdad, one targeting a church and the other targeting a market frequented by Christians, killed more than three dozen people and wounded 70 others.

PJ Media asked a number of columnists to name the most underreported foreign policy story of 2013. Andrew McCarthy wrote this in response:
