Fighting For Life

Last night I was honored to attend Susan B. Anthony List's annual gala. I had the privilege of delivering some brief remarks about the importance of the sanctity of life and introducing the evening's keynote speaker, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. Governor Huckabee delivered an impassioned speech on the importance of restoring the right to life in America.

A Jolly Victory

Last night Republican David Jolly won an upset victory in a special election for Florida's 13th Congressional District.

The 13th District is a swing seat, and Democrats had several advantages in this race. Barack Obama carried the district twice. The Democratic nominee, Alex Sink, had 100% name identification. A former statewide officeholder, Sink was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2010. In that race, Sink carried the 13th District.

Senate Liberals Talk About The Weather

Last night Senate liberals launched an unusual filibuster. It wasn't technically a filibuster because they were not trying to block a bill. They wanted to talk about the weather. They really wanted to talk about the weather. They talked all night long and well into the morning -- for 30 hours!

They took this unusual action to highlight what they claim is the growing danger from climate change. But the move has left many in the liberal media scratching their heads.

Unions vs. Obamacare

Conservatives have warned for years that Obamacare would be expensive, lead to lost hours and pay for workers and generally fail to live up to its promises. Such concerns were dismissed by liberals who glibly insisted that we had to pass the bill to find out what's in it.

Since 2010, the critics have largely been proven right. Now even some groups on the left are admitting it.

America Rejects Defense Cuts

As the Obama Administration looks for ways to pay for the massive spending in its latest $4 trillion budget, it is taking a meat cleaver to the Pentagon. Obama wants to slash the size of the Army to its lowest levels since before World War II.

But the American people aren't very keen on the idea of gutting our defenses. The latest Fox News poll finds that only 36% of voters support the troop cuts, while 59% oppose them.

Crisis In Crimea

As the crisis in Crimea drags on, no resolution is in sight. Russia scuttled an old ship to prevent Ukrainian vessels from leaving Donuzlav Lake. The Crimean parliament voted to join Russia and scheduled a March 16th referendum on secession from Ukraine.

Speaking from the White House this afternoon, President Obama condemned the referendum, saying it would "violate the Ukrainian constitution and international law." The White House also announced the imposition of visa restrictions and sanctions against Russia.

Syria's Christians Under Sharia Law

Radical Islamists seized control of the Syrian city of Raqqa last year. Now they are forcing Christians in the area to submit to a dhimma -- a feature of Sharia law that makes them second-class citizens.

Obama, Putin And Ukraine

The Obama Administration is attempting to ratchet up the pressure on Russia in response to the Ukrainian crisis. Yesterday the Pentagon announced that it had "put on hold all military-to-military engagements between the United States and Russia." Russian agricultural officials have been blocked from attending a trade meeting in Washington.

The Ninth Circus Strikes Again

Yesterday the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued yet another ruling likely to cause the blood pressure of patriotic Americans to skyrocket. In this case, the court ruled that officials at Live Oak High School, in a San Jose suburb, were justified in ordering students to take off or turn inside out their American flag t-shirts in order to avoid racial violence.

Brewer Picked The Pigskin

Sadly, as was widely predicted, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer yesterday vetoed SB 1062. Responding to her veto, Todd Starnes of Fox News tweeted, "Protect the Super Bowl or religious liberty? Brewer chose the pigskin."
